YEAR 4 FISH TRAPS

Year 4 has looked at the traditional fish traps created by Aboriginal Australians to gather food.  Year 4 interpreted these fish traps and made their own, complete with the sea and river food the traps would hold.  I love these and can't wait to collaborate with students to identify an outdoor space for their installation.

YEAR 3 FIRST CONTACT - NATIVES

When Australia was first discovered the unique flora and fauna was something never seen before.  Students in Year 3 have researched and recorded Native Australian Plants in their small jars.  They looked at Margaret Preston's prints of natives to understand and record their own drawings.  Students then looked at the British environmental sculptor Andy Goldsworthy to gain inspiration to create a miniature sculpture on their lids.

YEAR 5 STILL LIFE

Year 5 created a detailed and extensive colour chart using warm and cool primary colours.  Students applied this knowledge to paint and blend their fruit.  One of my very talented students asked if she could add black pen drawings of fruit to complete the composition.  How wonderful that a student suggests an addition to the year's artwork and it is incorporated into everyone's drawing.  I am very excited to be able to collaborate with my students.

YEAR 2 KUSAMA INSPIRED FRUIT

Year 2 looked at the eccentric, contemporary Japanese artists Yayoi Kusama.  They decided her favourite shape was a circle.  Inspired by Kusama's installations and of course, her majestic pumpkin sculpture, year 2 designed their own brightly coloured, heavily detailed artwork.  I think Yayoi would be so proud!
